WUPS Values – A Spot Light on Respect
During Term 1 we will continue to focus on the value – Respect - Respect for self, others and the environment. When students model our value of Respect they may be given a Values Token by staff.
At WUPS we lead by example and demonstrate our values in the learning environment by…
It is fantastic to celebrate our students’ successes in Monday and Friday Meetings for demonstrating our school values. It is particularly pleasing to listen to adults describe situations in our learning environment where students ‘have a go’ even when it is hard as well as when students always follow instructions from adults.
Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show children who miss too many days of school can struggle academically. 20 missed days each year over the 10 years of schooling is equivalent to missing a full year of education.
How can you help?
- Plan holidays during non-school days
- Schedule your child’s medical and dental appointments at the end of the school day
- Make sure your child goes to school every day unless they are unwell
Hands on Learning (HoL)
The HoL group supported by Mrs Haywood and Jeremiah have been very busy. Their first project is pictured below. Students used the titles created at our Wellbeing Expo back in late 2019 to make a WUPS mural. Make sure you have a look in the courtyard outside 1/2A. We look forward to seeing their next school project.

In 3/4 we earnt a whole day of science doing different experiments, these are some of the things we did.
We got a marshmallow and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes then we took it out and it was really hot and it was bigger than Mr Nayler’s hand. Another experiment that we did was with milk and food colouring. We placed milk in a tray and dropped the food colouring in before poking dish washing liquid in it and watched all the fat globules move around.
We also did a rocket experiment using bottles filled with water, we pumped air into them, they shot off like rockets. We added our own features to them to see if they would go further than before. Mylie’s favourite experiment was the coke and mentos. We put mentos lollies into the coke bottle then we put a hole in the lid. We had a string holding the mentos in the bottle, we poked something in to move the string then it exploded like a volcano.
The last experiment was fireworks in a jar. We put water in the jar as well as oil and food colouring. Then the food colouring went down and it went everywhere. We can’t wait for new experiments and to see how wacky Mr Nayler’s outfit and Mr Barnetts beard can be.

It was recently shared with me that at least five of this years Ulverstone Secondary College School Leaders are ex WUPS students. What a fantastic achievement by these students. This is a good reminder to be aspirational and have the courage to stand up and put yourself out there.
The West Ulverstone Primary School Association works in partnership with the school community to participate in setting future directions, make decisions and develop policies that have a direct effect on the way the school operates.
Elections for the School Association will be held on Monday 29 March 2021 at 5.30pm in the WUPS meeting room. We are always looking for new members and encourage you to attend.
The AGM will be followed by our regular meeting. For enquiries please phone the school office on 6425 2195.
