Building Our Vision
During Term 2, community members and staff are conducting interviews in our local community. You might receive a phone call or knock on the door asking if you would like to be interviewed. We are doing this to deeply understand our community and find opportunities where we can improve. If this is something that interests you, and you would like to be a part of our School Vision building, please leave your name at the office.
Primary Progress Reports
On Wednesday Primary Progress Reports have gone home with families. These reports provide a summary of student’s attitude, effort and behaviour towards their learning. Please contact the office if you would like to make an appointment to speak with classroom teachers.
Moderation Day
Tomorrow teachers will be working at West Ulverstone Primary School with the 6 Partnership Schools on Moderation (Sprent PS, East Ulverstone PS, Ulverstone PS and Penguin District School). The purpose of moderation is to support the ongoing teaching, learning and assessment cycle. Moderation occurs regularly throughout the school year and on a designated state-wide day at the end of Term 1. The 2 key purposes of moderation are ensuring consistency of judgement and improving student learning outcomes.
Flexible Learning at WUPS
on Wednesday afternoons this term four students attend the Men’s Shed with Mrs Jones. Highlights have been using building tools, taking the projects home, being creative and designing our own projects as gifts or keeping them for ourselves. Dave, Keith, Sam and Rob are very nice and helpful. We look forward to going to Men’s Shed on a Wednesday and thank Mrs Jones for taking us.
Enjoy the Term 1 holidays and be sure to take time out for yourself and spend time with your family. Thank you for your support over the past term.

5-6B realised that a lot of students do not understand about odd and even numbers, therefore they made these posters for other classes.

Jarod is our Aussie of the Month as he consistently shows respect to all members of the school community. He always gives 100% to his tasks. Congratulations Jarod!
This term we have been focusing on the value of Respect – respecting ourselves, others, our past and our environment. It has been fantastic seeing so many students living this value in everything they do. Congratulations to all people who were recognised this term for being respectful.
Congratulations to the students pictured below for being acknowledged for displaying our shared school value of Respect over the past fortnight.
Next term, we will be having a whole school focus on Aspiration where we will be promoting a culture of high expectations and high achievement. We will unpack this value with the school community during Term 2.
Twilight Athletic Carnival - Outstanding Results
Congratulations to Jordan D, Sienna E and Jay-Jay C on their selection in the NWPSSA Athletic team. Selection was based on the results of the 800m finals, field events and the finals held at the recent Twilight Carnival. Their athletic ability gained them selection in this North West team and the chance to compete at the State Primary Schools Athletic Carnival on Thursday 6 May.

Tasmanian Premiers Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is on again this year and will begin on Monday, 26 April and end Friday, 2 July 2021.
To complete the challenge you will need to read 10 books in 10 weeks. When you have completed the Challenge, send your teacher your completed log book. The log books will be handed out at the beginning of Term 2.
You are free to choose which fiction or non-fiction books you read for the Challenge.
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) was first undertaken as an online test in Tasmania during 2019. Tasmanian schools will again participate in NAPLAN Online this year.
NAPLAN Online provides better assessment and more precise results.
The assessments feature a tailored test design where the questions a student receives will depend on their answers to previous questions.
NAPLAN testing will be held from the 11 to 21 May 2021.
Online testing will be available for each of the NAPLAN year levels (3, 5, 7 and 9).
NAPLAN assessments include four components, Writing, Numeracy, Conventions of Language and Reading. Please note that all Year Three students will be completing a paper-based Writing Test.
Schools will receive reports and results for participants following the completion of the NAPLAN Online assessment window. These Individual Student Reports will have the same format as in previous years. This format is used for every student in Australia.
A parent/carer brochure containing more information about the NAPLAN Online assessments, will be distributed by the school to families of students sitting NAPLAN this year.
If you have further questions, please contact Sarah Crawford at the school.
