Respect Awards
Congratulations to our values champions this week for showing our value of Respect. These students have been respecting self, others and our environment.
Being part of the WUPS community
Wearing school uniforms is the easiest way to feel a part of the WUPS community. Here at WUPS we are committed to ensure we are all in uniform every day. School uniform is not just about how we look - it is our first experience in developing an understanding of social expectations. Here at WUPS we pride ourselves on growing and developing connected community members.

Primary Progress Reports
As mentioned in the last newsletter Primary Progress Reports will go home with students next Friday (April 8), these reports provide a summary of student’s attitude, effort and behaviour towards their learning. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions about their report.
Does your child catch the bus?
If not, perhaps now is the time to try as it will be free for the next 5 weeks!
Travel is free on all public and school buses from Monday, 28 March to Saturday, 30 April 2022.
This five-week fare free period is intended to encourage more people to try the bus and help family budgets.
For more information, schools, families, and students can talk to their bus driver, visit www.transport.tas.gov.au/public_transport or call 6166 3343 (9:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays).
Launching into Learning (LiL)
Do you have children Birth - 4 Years? Please help us plan for LiL for Term 2 by completing the below survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WUPSLiL22
For the remainder of term LiL will be outside the LiL building. Sessions will be cancelled if it is raining. Sessions for Term 2 will be indoors with Covid safe practices.
Seesaw Families Partnering Learning
During the year if you have any questions or concerns, classroom teachers are your first port of call. You can book an appointment through our office staff to see classroom teachers after 3pm Tuesday and Thursday. All staff take part in Professional Learning on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Please ensure you have downloaded Seesaw. It is a great way to message classroom teachers directly and see snapshots of your child’s learning. Below is an example of a Seesaw post from 4/5/6A.
Local Author Visit
WUPS enjoyed the company of local author Will Braid during library time Wednesday March 23. Recently Murray and the Seagull was nominated for the Prime Minister's Literary Award for Children's Literature. Will was very generous with his time and even gave away a signed copy of his book to the best question. The best question was, “what are you going to do when you finish writing books”? Thanks for visiting WUPS
School Association Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 4 April at 4:45pm. Nominations are called for parent and community representatives. Nominations forms are available from the school office and must be returned to Tiffany (Returning Officer) by Friday 1 April at 3:00pm.

Vaccination is the best protection
Our school has many COVID-19 safety measures in place, but vaccination is the best way to protect your child from COVID-19.
As per Public Health advice, vaccination is safe and helps to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Your child will need two doses (eight weeks apart) to be fully vaccinated.
If you haven’t already, please book your child aged 5+ years in for their initial vaccination or second dose vaccination. It’s easy to book your appointment online. Alternatively, call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
Please know that all children, regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated or not, are welcome to attend school.
For more information, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.

COVID-19 Symptons
Thank you to our entire school community for your cooperation this term by practising COVID-safe behaviours.
As you know, an important COVID-safe behaviour is to stay at home if you’re unwell and get tested for COVID-19 using a rapid antigen test.
Public Health tells us that the number of cases of COVID-19 in children is low, and they’re likely to have milder symptoms.
It’s a good reminder to be mindful of the symptoms of COVID-19 in children. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 in children are cough, fever, runny nose and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
For more information, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.

Latest advice on COVID-19 re-infection
The re-infection period between when it is likely people could have COVID-19 again will increase from 8 weeks to 12 weeks on Monday 28 March 2022, based on the latest advice from the Communicable Diseases Network Australia.
This means, people who are within 12 weeks of the date of their release from isolation after testing positive to COVID-19 have a low risk of being reinfected.
People who are within the 12 week period of being released from isolation after having COVID-19 will not be considered close contacts and will not be required to get tested if they have symptoms or to quarantine.
This term in 4-5-6 Gee, we have been working with numbers and exploring all sorts of number facts and strategies for working with place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
This week we have created some clues and hope you will be able to use them to work out the numbers you will need to crack the code.
The first one has been done for you ? Good Luck.

We were also fortunate enough to meet with children’s author, Will Braid, to hear how an author writes. The most important message was that he improved his writing by editing many times before it was sent to be published.
