School Values
This term we have been focusing on the value of Respect – respecting ourselves, others, our past and our environment. It has been fantastic seeing so many students living this value in everything they do. Congratulations to all students who were recognised this term for displaying our value of Respect.
Term 1 House Points
This year house points will be accumulated daily, not just at our sporting carnivals. All values tokens earned are transferred to 1 House Point. Students who receive Values Awards, Art Awards and Aussie of the Month Awards attract additional points. With a few days left this term Forth are off to a 211 point lead.
Student LeadersCongratulations to our 2022 Student Leaders;
- Zoe and Amber are our Literacy Leaders who will be working with Mrs Willoughby and Mrs Goodwin in the library and home reading program.

Launching into Learning
Thank you to families who completed the recent survey about what days and times suit for Launching into Learning. Please keep an eye out for our session times to be advertised shortly.
Moderation Day
Tomorrow teachers will be working online with all teachers from across the state to understand the 9 Point Assessment and Reporting Scale and moderate a Common Assessment Task (CAT) “The Door”. The purpose of moderation is to support the ongoing teaching, learning and assessment cycle. Moderation occurs regularly throughout the school year and on a designated state-wide day at the end of Term 1. The two key purposes for moderation are ensuring consistency of judgement and improving student learning outcomes.Flag Monitors
We have recently had a new flagpole installed in our courtyard, so we are able to fly both the Australian and Australian Aboriginal Flags. In a Friday School Meeting a few weeks ago, I asked students who were interested in becoming Flag Monitors to come and find me the next week. Highlighting if students remembered to come and see me, I would know their commitment. Two Year 6 students responsibly found me the next week, eager to become Flag Monitors. Congratulations to Kendell and Chayse who have been learning the correct way to raise and lower the flag as well as folding the flag. As part of this learning, Kendell and Chayse discovered our Australian flag was very old compared to the new silky Aboriginal Flag. The flags can be seen flying high from the front of the school (Maud Street). Local MP, Mr Gavin Pearce has kindly donated a new Australian Flag to WUPS.
Children’s University
We are delighted 9 of our students have enrolled in Children’s University. These students have met with Jesse from the University of Tasmania and are now well underway earning stamps in their learning passport. If your child is interested in enrolling, please either collect a form from the office or see Mrs Goodwin.
Security Cameras
As you are aware WUPS has been subject to vandalism and most recently costing the school thousands of dollars in window repairs. Over the past two weeks security cameras have been installed on the exterior of the building as a preventative measure. As part of this school improvement, we have included cameras in high traffic floor areas, admin area, meeting room and the corridor. There are no cameras in classrooms or toilets. Please reassure your child that security cameras are in place to keep everyone safe. We are giving this same message.

K/P - Miss Brown and Miss Finch
Can you believe we are already at the end of Term 1? In Kinder/Prep we have had a very busy term with lots of learning and different activities happening. It has been great to see students building friendships and displaying lots of positive behaviours such as sharing and helping others.
We have also been very lucky with the weather so far this year which has allowed us to make use of our outdoor space for learning.
We wish all of our Kinder/Prep families a fantastic Easter break, ready to come back for some more fantastic learning in Term 2!
Miss Finch and Miss Brown
Students in 1/2A have been learning about the water cycle and how clouds are made.
Our investigations have included learning the names and appearance of different clouds like Cumulous (the big white fluffy clouds) and Cirrus clouds (the light wispy see-through clouds).
We have conducted experiments such as making a cloud in a jar and talked about how we use water in our lives.
The water colour pictures show how we understand that water is used in many ways.
I have really enjoyed hearing what our class wonder about when discussing where water and clouds come from.
May you all have a wonderful Easter and relaxing break. I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 2.
Miss Cox
The start of 2022 was challenging for all members of team 1/2B. Through challenge, however, comes amazing moments and the way our students have demonstrated courage and respect throughout this term has been outstanding.
This past fortnight, we have been joined by Miss Zoe King from Swinburne University and our students have been very welcoming. During that time, we have been learning about the Earth’s resources with a particular focus on water. As a tuning in activity, students composed some poems exploring water through the senses. We hope you enjoy reading some below!
Have a safe and happy Easter and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 2.
Mr French
This term in 3/4A, our inquiry work has focussed on the question, ‘What makes Australia unique?’ This has led us to learn about Australian animals and we’ve demonstrated our learning by creating labelled diagrams. We’ve been researching Australian states and territories and been finding out about the wonderful natural and manmade features that Australia has to offer. As a class we are working on creating our own class book based on the book ‘Aussie Alphabet – Tongue Twist Your Way From A to Z’ by Emily Murray and Rebecca Mills. Keep an eye out next term for our book ‘A-Z of Australia’ written, edited and published by 3/4A.
Miss Pratt
Technology in 4/5/6A
In 4/5/6 Gee we enjoy using our laptops for a range of different learning tasks. Some things we do with our computers include:
- Publishing our writing
- Practicing our touch typing
- Reading to Self
- Maths Challenges
- Researching
- Making PowerPoint Presentations
- And the accessional game.
If you’d like access to your child’s Study Ladder, Epic Reading, Prodigy or Typing Club accounts for use at home. Contact Mr Gee through Seesaw and he’ll be able to send you our login details.
The following is a persuasive letter Kendell has written this term. She used the computer to complete her research and publish her work.
Stop Polluting Our Oceans
Dear Mayor Bonde,
Hi, my name is Kendell and I’m writing to you about the pollution in our seas. If we don’t want to lose all our animals, I DEMANED we STOP and me and you do something about it soon.
So many animals are dying, these animals get killed each year by plastic and other types of pollution. It is affecting our oceans in a way that we might never be able to fix.
Here are some facts about the number of animals we are losing.
Approximately 1,000 sea turtles die each year as a result of digestion of plastic. An Australian study found that turtles have a 22 percent chance of dying from ingesting plastic items if they swallow it.
About 12,000 dolphins are killed by plastic beer holders each year and 300,000 dolphins and porpoises are caught in fishing nets each year. This is way too many dolphins. If we keep killing them at this rate there will be none left.
An estimated 100 million sharks are killed every year around the world due to being tangled in fishing nets and other types of pollution. A number that far exceeds what many populations need to recover.
Sharks and rays are getting entangled in plastic pollution. Here is a picture of a mako shark in the Pacific Ocean that has become entangled by a fishing rope, which is causing it’s back to become deformed.
Mayor Bond You've seen the heartbreaking video of the turtle with a straw caught in its nose, and you've heard about fish pumped with microplastics.
Now is the time to do something and no this is no joke any more so come on and let’s do something quick and soon.
