For writing over 100 words in her story!
What a wonderful term we have had together at Launch in to Learning!
At our Gross Motor program this term we have explored skills such as balancing, climbing, throwing, and jumping. Our obstacle course has been a whole group favourite!
Our Pre-Kinder has started with a huge success, it has been lovely meeting new friends, exploring our interests, developing strong relationships, and practicing our social skills through play.
At our Wednesday morning LiL sessions we have shared science week, book week, a visit from the Library’s Rock ‘n’ Rhyme program and lots of laughter! Our end of term celebration at the Library and Dinosaur Park was a highlight and we are looking forward to continuing this engagement in our community.
You can find our LiL session times for Term 4 below.
We look forward to seeing you there!
In HASS, our Preps have been exploring places that are special to them. We have explored the ways that different places can be special to us and why they are important. You can see some of our ideas and writing below. One of our special places is our school and we have also enjoyed watching the construction that has been taking place here over the last few weeks as part of this discussion.
The Kinders have enjoyed sharing time outside in the sun as it begins to warm up! We are busy practicing our names, learning about counting and building skills including collaboration and negotiation with others.
We are looking forward to a busy and exciting Term 4.
During Term 3 students in 1-2A have been practicing nursery rhymes.
We have learnt about how they help us to remember patterns, rhythm, and how words can be spelled differently but still sound alike.
It was fun to make up actions that help us to remember the words while we sing.
Here are a couple of rhymes that we made up ourselves for you to enjoy. I am sure that you will enjoy seeing the children share the actions with you over the holidays.
Some kids went out to fly a kite.
They flew it left, they swooped it right.
The wind blew up, with all its might
And sent that kite, right out of sight.
A farmer went to move his sheep.
And found, that they were all asleep.
The only way to wake those sheep,
Was push the Ute horn.
Beep, beep, beep.
Term 3 has been really exciting in 1 / 2 B. We have had some key focus areas in our learning – with all students showing our values of aspiration and growth across the term.
At the start of the term, students in 1/2B collaborated to develop a ‘super sentence checklist’ which has evolved into a tool for self-editing of writing. We even had some year 6 leaders complete some writing for us to edit! As a team, we have been able to deeply understand how to construct and use sentences correctly in our writing. I am looking forward to seeing this continue into Term 4.
We have also been developing our knowledge of the place ten value system. Some impressive thinking has been happening in this space – particularly during our number talks. Some of our wonderful learners are even able to rename 2 and 3 digit numbers – a challenging skill for year 1 and 2 students!
Thank you for your continued support as we progress through the year.

This week students in 4/5/6A have been using their understanding of factors to investigate prime and composite numbers. In the images below, students are using different coloured connector blocks to represent the prime factors of whole numbers. Where a number cannot be made using previously used blocks, a new colour must be used which indicates that a new prime number has been found.
On Wednesday the 28th September the student leaders versed staff in Basketball. I interviewed a few people in the staff vs leaders’ basketball game. I was asking them some questions. These are the questions
Teachers:
How do you feel about today’s game?
Mr French: nervous
Mr D: good
Mr Gee: great
Mrs McAuliffe: excited
Miss Cox: pumped
Leaders
Katiah: I feel better then them
Sienna: pretty good
Amelia: ok
Riley: not great
Seb: horrible
Doug: ok
Finlay: good
Do you think you’re going to win?
Teachers:
Mr French: no
Mr D: yes, I don’t think the leaders are going to win
Mr Gee: yes
Mrs McAuliffe: yes
Ms Cox: yes
Leaders
Kataih: yes
Sienna: no
Amelia: yeah, doesn’t faze me
Riley: no
Seb: yes, teachers suck (I think that’s a little harsh)
Kendell: no
Doug: maybe
Finlay: yes
The winner of the basketball game was the leaders I think the teachers were a little too confident that is why they didn’t win. Or maybe they went easy on the leaders, but I don’t think so.
Student Representative Council

This year we have had 9 students enrol in Children’s University. These students have each been given a passport where they receive stamps for every hour they complete activities outside of school hours. These activities can include sports, visits to museums including The Hive, completing puzzles, cooking, reviewing books/meals or movies, doing projects/mazes/word searches. The aim of completing activities is to learn or connect with the community. If students reach 30 hours they can then graduate at a formal ceremony with the University of Tasmania. Each year the student’s hours continue into the following year, so what they earn this year is what they start off with next year. Congratulations to the following students: Maddison, Jasmin, Douglas, Boaz and Reid who will be graduating this year. Congratulations also to Brynee, Billy, Tyson and Joshua who have completed hours as well this year. Graduation will be on November 15. Stay tuned for this update.
We will advertise how to sign up early next year if your child is interested in participating in Children’s University in 2023.
The Family Challenge continues to be successful. Congratulations to Phoebe who achieved the nine challenges, receiving 15 value tokens and their names in the drawer for a family pass to The Hive.
The competition will continue over the school holidays, and the winner will be announced in week one of Term Four.
One of the challenges is the riddle, can you solve the following:
You can find it in Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, but not in Venus or Neptune. What is it?

Tips for Parents (How to help children cope with anxiety)
When children feel angry, frustrated, and disruptive, they may be experiencing anxiety.
It is very normal for children feel worried as they deal with change. Such as going to a new school/ having a new baby in the house, parent separation and seeing the death of a pet or loved one.
No child will react the same way to anxiety. Some children will find it difficult to tell you how they are feeling. Their angry and frustrating behaviours can be mistaken for being naughty.
Signs of anxiety include trouble sleeping/restless behaviours/poor concentration and heart racing
- Don’t dismiss or ignore a child’s fear
- Avoid labelling or criticising your child as shy or anxious.
- Don’t push them if they don’t want to do things, they’re anxious about. -instead, gently encourage them to try.
- Ask the school for support /Catholic Care ph. 131819 or Parent Line on 1300 1300 52.
How to help your child
There are many exercises and games which can help your child cope with anxiety. They teach children how to understand what they are feeling. They also teach relaxation techniques which will improve coping skills and reduce anxiety.
For example:
1.“Mind in a Jar”
Purpose:
To teach children that they can calm their bodies and minds with deep breathing
Supplies needed:
Jars (jam jars)
Water
Glitter
(Hint: Glitter is with the bracelet-making kits at Target.)
Using the Mind Jars. https://leftbrainbuddha.com
Shake up the glitter - explain that the swirling colours represent their frustration and anger
As they watch the glitter settle, do some deep breathing exercises with them
Explain that the settling glitter represents their minds and body relaxing
- Singing
Having a singalong with your child is an excellent way to practise being calm and improve mood. The best phone app is https://www.kinderlingkids.com. On this site there is an album ‘Passing Clouds’ written by teacher, Kate Oliver. Kate has written songs to teach kids about managing anxiety.
The best resources to try:
