Our school has been a hive of excitement over the past two weeks. We have celebrated book week with style where our classes have presented some amazing displays in the hall in preparation for our book week parade. Every year I am blown away by the effort and enthusiasm book week brings, everyone looked amazing.
Our students have also begun personal interest groups this week. Each student, in years Prep to 6 have been able to choose an interest group they would like to participate in and these are run after lunch on Wednesdays. This week I have seen craft, cooking, football skills and drills, kindness projects, dancing, water colour art, board games, sewing, mindfulness, and science around the school. The way our students have worked across grades has been a credit to them and the activities our staff have prepared for them has been exciting.
This week we have been celebrating our teacher assistants for Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teacher assistants are valued members of our school community and the care they show to all of our students is amazing.
Due to a number of reasons, especially staff absences, our assembly last week was postponed. After consultation with staff, we have decided to merge this assembly with our end of term assembly and have all classes present at the end of term. This will be on Tuesday, 26th September.
Families are invited to parent engagement meetings this term. As mentioned earlier this year, reporting has changed and instead of receiving reports, families will receive an evidence of learning for English and HASS. Teachers will have hard copy available at these meetings. School Satisfaction Surveys:
Every year the Department of Education conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about West Ulverstone Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 28 August 2023 until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey by clicking this Link. or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/idY2xM5Zqf
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education staff.
Please contact your school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

What a busy Term it has been in Prep-1-2 so far!
Students have been working hard on their letter sounds and common letter patterns in words. Every day they discuss how some words have 2 letters that make a single sound such as /sh/ and /ck/.
We have been using this knowledge to become better writers and word detectives.
As word detectives, students eagerly find the letter patterns in books and then add them to our ever-growing word wall. I have been very excited to hear students sharing their new understandings and how much they have all increased confidence when reading.
This term all students have worked on watercolour portraits, recycled cardboard sculptures, drawing technique, designed book covers for Book Week, and were introduced to some basic printmaking processes.
Older students produced abstract paintings on mini canvases, learned about symmetry in art through creating mandala designs and worked on graffiti art lettering styles.
Younger students have also explored a range of craft activities and recently produced some fantastic crayon and collage art responding to Eric Carle’s story “Papa please get the moon for me” in the lead up to Father’s Day.
Several students were selected to represent the school in the Education Department’s Young Archie’s Portrait Prize currently displayed at the University of Tasmania art school in Hobart. Fifteen students will receive certificates for this achievement. There will be opportunities for additional students to have artwork on show in two upcoming children’s art exhibitions in Launceston and Burnie later this term and in Term 4.
