Dear Families,
This past two week our students in years Prep-6 have completed their assessments in reading and maths in the Progressive Achievement Test (PAT). This has been on online assessment which teachers will use to see how much students have progressed this year. All students in these years complete these assessments in Tasmania.
Personal Interest Groups began last week. Our students have been taking part in a variety of interest groups such as fixing bikes, painting a mural at the New Mornings Garden, craft, music and gardening.
Last week, during the student free day, our staff worked together to look at how our school improvement plan has gone this year. Our teachers moderated student’s science work and our teachers completed modules to further their learning.
We had a fantastic dress up day for Halloween last week. Our students looked absolutely amazing in their costumes and the parade we held at the beginning of the day was full of smiles and excitement. Thank you to all families who supported our students who wished to dress up for this event.
Our Christmas Parade committee met last week to begin organising a WUPS float. The committee have agreed on a ‘Santa’s Workshop’ theme. Any student wishing to participate in this event are welcome. Please send back the expression of interest form. We are also looking for volunteers to help decorate the truck prior to the parade, please your name at the school office.
We will be laying a wreath at the Ulverstone cenotaph tomorrow to commemorate Remembrance Day. The wreath will be laid at 10:45. Please feel free to come down to see this if you wish.
Our pre-kinder students have been able to meet their Kinder teacher for next year this week. Ms Anna Tassell is excited to be taking on the Kinder teacher role next year. Ms Tassell is currently our Quality Teaching Coach.
In Partnership,
Sarah Crawford
Congratulations to Shelby whose design was one of four selected Australia-wide to be printed on the Public Education Foundation Christmas cards.
Shelby will receive 25 copies of her card and the school will receive 100 copies to distribute in the community.

This past week we have been looking at the Australian Flag and using this as a seed to dive into the history of our nation.
We started by unpacking our flag and what its design means. We watched a BTN article and worked as a class to summarise our key learnings.
This lead to some wonderings around what the word federation means.
We used this to prompt some research into the word federation. Some of our findings are:
- Becoming a federation was when there were lots of small groups here and we became one nation – Jamo and Kye
- The joining of lots of small groups into a big nation – Ella
- Different states become one country together – Zahlia
Excitingly, Ella noticed that the flags birthday was on the 3rd of September which prompted her to ask this question:
“If the flags birthday is on the 3rd of September why is Australia Day a thing? Is that to do with the federation?”
This question is going to inform our inquiry into the next few weeks – keep an eye on see-saw for updates on our learning!
