Our school has been celebrating a lot of achievements this fortnight.
Last week we held our sharing assembly where we were able to recognise students for displaying our values, art award winners and Aussie of the Month. Our classes who shared did an amazing job and were very excited to share their learning with the school.
This week our students performed in our annual Talent Quest. We had a large amount of students who auditioned for this over a couple of weeks. Congratulations to all students who had the courage to get on the stage to try out and also those who made it through to the finals. Congratulations to Mylie, Pia, Rosie, Maddi and Mr French for winning the Talent Quest with singing ‘Shallow’, followed by Logan, Robbie, Cormac and Chaad for a close second with their version of ‘Straight and Narrow’. Ryder, Rylie were third with their joke telling. Well done to Cormac for being the MC for the event too.
On Wednesday six of our students graduated from Children’s University. We had 15 students involved this year. Students participating accumulate hours for learning they do in their own time. This can include visiting libraries and museums, cooking a meal at home, reading and writing a book review, playing sport, learning an instrument just to name a few. Receiving a National Bronze Award for 30 hours was Rylie, Tilly, Aysh and Kye. Reid received a National Silver Award for 65 hours and Boaz was awarded the National Gold Award for 100 hours.
Congratulations to our students who have taken part in the school’s triathlon this week in Devonport. This is a great opportunity for students to compete against other schools in riding, swimming and running.
Next week our students will work with a local artist to paint a mural on the front of the school. This mural will have rainbow lorikeets and blue gums on it to represent local flora and fauna of West Ulverstone. This mural will be a paint by number so students will be able to have a turn painting it. We are really looking forward to seeing this art take place.
We will also be holding our Celebration of Learning afternoon on Wednesday, 29th November. All families are invited. We will begin with an official opening at 2:00pm in the hall. Families will then move to their child’s classroom where they can share the learning their child has been doing at school. There will be a free ice cream van, BBQ and sporting activities outside for families to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there.

Term 4 is of to a fantastic start in Prep-1-2. After meeting Mem Fox last Term, we are learning about her and the books she has written. Our classroom has a Mem Fox Author of the month area and we have created a chart with things that we know, want to know, and have learnt during our Author study.
Here are some of the things our class have said about our Author of the month.
“Mem Fox writes good books” Leo. “Mem Fox writes super sentences” Tilly.
“Mem Fox is very good at rhyming” Charlotte.
“The Magic Hat by Mem Fox is my favourite” Abigail.
TELL SOMEONE
Wording for school newsletter article – to distribute to families
All children in Tasmania have a right to be known, safe, well and learning. We are highly committed to the safety of all students at our school.
Earlier this month, DECYP launched the Tell Someone initiative, to raise awareness in the community about child sexual abuse and grooming.
The Tell Someone website gives children and young people clear advice on what to do in situations where they feel worried, unsafe or unsure. It also gives adults advice and support on how to respond if they suspect or know a child is being groomed or sexually abused or is at risk of harm.
Please visit the website, read the information, and try to find a suitable time to talk with your child/children about this issue and the resources available. It’s important that everyone understands the possible signs of sexual abuse or grooming behaviour, and how to stay safe online and offline.
If reading this information has caused you distress, please visit DECYP’s website for a list of support services.
Please contact the school if you have any questions about this information.
